We had a great evening last Friday at our Best of American Beer – tasting event. Zak Avery was very knowledgeable,  living up to his Beer Guru status by sharing the history of the beers on offer, as well as the unique flavours of the diverse range.  But don’t just take our word for it – photos from the evening are on Facebook.

The evening went so well, we’re planning to do another later this year – look out for details.

Not all the beers were American, but Zak explained why he’d included beers like Sam Smith’s India Ale – it’s all part of the history of American brewing. Here’s the beer list:

CASK:
Elland Tomahawk  4.7%
Magic Rock High Wire  5.5%
Saltaire Cascade Pale Ale  4.8%
Saltaire Stateside IPA 6 %
Keg:
Sierra Nevada Celebration  6.8%
Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest  6.7%
Bottle:
Brooklyn Brewery Chocolate Stout  11%
Brooklyn Brewery Lager  5.2%
Flying Dog Raging Bitch  8.3%
Samuel Smith’s India Ale  5%
SKA Modus Hoperandi  6.8%
Wild Beer Madness IPA  6.8%

What people said about the evening:

“A great evening! I’ve been to many brewery events in the past but never anything with the structure of a talk/tasting session so it was a new but thoroughly enjoyable experience for me. Zak Avery is an engaging and wonderfully knowledgeable speaker and I would certainly be more than happy to listen to him talk again in future.”

“The volume and variety of beer was amazing! And it was great to hear the story behind each beer from Zak. It’s amazing to be sitting at a table and just keep being served beer after beer after beer! It was also nice that the presentation had an informal feel to it and there was a chance for interaction.”

“Excellent speaker (Zak Avery). Good selection of beers. Altogether an excellent evening.”
