A new season of Beer Club started in April and what a Beer Club it was! A great crowd joined us to enjoy extra seating in a marquee, and a faster service at the bars after we added pumps and staff to the downstairs bar.

The popularity of Beer Club continues to grow with people coming from across the North of England every month.

For Beer Club to continue to be a hugely enjoyable experience we want to make sure that:

• We serve a great range of beers at only £2.00 a pint, as quickly as possible

• We have enough shelter on site and inside the Brewery, should there be a nasty turn in the weather

• People who travel especially to come to Beer Club, and groups of friends, avoid disappointment at the gate and are guaranteed entry

• We comply with all the Health and Safety stuff

This means that as well as our recent building improvements, from now on:

• We’ll always have a marquee with extra seating for up to 100 people

• Entry will be managed to make sure we don’t exceed the capacity for the site – not just for the Brewery

From June’s Beer Club onwards, the event will be ticketed:

• Tickets will be £5.00 each. It guarantees entry to Beer Club, whatever time you turn up between 4.00pm-10.00pm, and includes one free drink

• Tickets for the following month’s Beer Club will be on sale at each Beer Club, starting in May.

• The remaining tickets will be available from the Brewery or online at eventbrite.co.uk from the following Monday.

• Beer Clubbers can still turn up and take their chances at free entry from 6.00pm on a strict “One out, one in” basis. As the tea time trade starts to leave, we expect some space to free up. For larger groups and people travelling any distance, we recommend that you buy tickets to guarantee entry and avoid disappointment at the gate.

We’re sorry we’ve had to introduce a ticket charge, but we have to manage the numbers of people on the site, and it includes a free pint, the cost of the marquee, staff and online ticketing service.

Thank you for all your support for Beer Club and the Brewery.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us by email: info@saltairebrewery.co.uk or call us on 01274 594959.

Local beer blogger Leigh Linley is launching his latest book, “Great Yorkshire Beer” at the York Tap on 30 May from 7pm, and we’ll be going along to support it. Come along to meet our Head Brewer, Tony and try some of Yorkshire’s best ales.

With so many micro-breweries in our region, it’s no wonder a book is needed to help folk get to know some of the best – including ours!

About the book:

The current boom in Craft and Microbrewing that the UK is seeing has exploded across Yorkshire, and the Yorkshire beer of today is more than just a pint of best. The new generation of Yorkshire brewers are breaking rules and traditions, resurrecting lost dynasties, soaking up influences from food and brewing in other countries and bringing a wave of fresh ideas to our beloved Yorkshire beer.

Leigh Linley has spent time with a handful of the regions newest and most critically–acclaimed brewers from the region, from the south to east ridings – and Great Yorkshire Beer is their story.

Each brewer is interviewed and their most successful beers are profiled. Food pairings for the beers run throughout.

About the author

Leigh Linley has been writing about beer and food since 2007 on his popular blog,”The Good Stuff“. His work has also been published in Beer Magazine, Culture Vulture, Leeds Guide. He has worked with Marketing Leeds promoting the pubs of Leeds.

It’s chance for established and upcoming artists to exhibit and sell their work. And, for the rest of us, it’s a lovely day out to meet the artists and makers, and appreciate their work.

This year, we’re supporting the event by adopting The Saltaire Bookshop. Pop in to browse books in one of the few independent bookshops left in West Yorkshire and view the work of several artists. Find out more, visit Open House – Saltaire Bookshop.

While you’re visiting Saltaire, you could also enjoy our beer at many of Saltaire’s pubs, restaurants and bars:

In February, we started to update our facilities to make sure we can continue to safely host, and you can enjoy, our very popular monthly Beer Club.

We’ve worked hard to try to get it ready for March’s Beer Club, but the building work will not be finished in time. We have decided to cancel Beer Club, for one month only, to make sure that the work is completed.

We’ll be ready for April’s Beer Club. We hope it’s not upset too many plans for the Bank Holiday weekend and that you will be able to join us for Beer Clubs from April onwards.

If you have any questions about Beer Club – please call us on 01274 594959.

What people said about the evening:

“A great evening! I’ve been to many brewery events in the past but never anything with the structure of a talk/tasting session so it was a new but thoroughly enjoyable experience for me. Zak Avery is an engaging and wonderfully knowledgeable speaker and I would certainly be more than happy to listen to him talk again in future.”

“The volume and variety of beer was amazing! And it was great to hear the story behind each beer from Zak. It’s amazing to be sitting at a table and just keep being served beer after beer after beer! It was also nice that the presentation had an informal feel to it and there was a chance for interaction.”

“Excellent speaker (Zak Avery). Good selection of beers. Altogether an excellent evening.”

Regular Beer Clubbers will know that there’s no Beer Club at the Brewery on Friday 22 February because it’s Bradford Beer Festival from Thursday 28 February until Saturday 2 March at Victoria Hall, Saltaire, and we’re busy getting ready for it.

We’re very excited about taking a couple of our newest brews, a delicious deep red ale New World Red 5.2% and our session bitter, Saltaire Pride 3.9%, to the Festival. Brand new Kala Black IPA 6.2% will also have its first major outing at the Festival. Expect extra hoppiness from this exciting brew! And for those that like their ale pale, we’re taking Tykes Gold 4.4% – a very drinkable golden ale made with Czech and American hops.

See you there!

PS. The next Beer Club will be Friday 29 March – yes, we know it’s Good Friday.
