Packaging Lead Wanted!

Saltaire are looking for an enthusiastic individual to lead a team of 3 members of staff and be responsible for the day to day running of a new packaging plant that is being commissioned in spring 2018. The successful candidate will report to the Operations Director and will work closely with brewing, sales and logistics leads to ensure the packaging and warehousing of own brand products, as well as those of 3rd parties. This is a new venture for the Brewery and there is significant scope to shape and influence the direction of this part of the business as it grows. It’s an exciting opportunity with lots of potential.


About the candidate:

The successful candidate must have experience working on a packaging line and be able to demonstrate competence in maintaining packaging equipment.  A brewing background is not necessary, but you should be passionate about beer and have an appreciation of the brewing process.


You will also need to demonstrate people management skills, have experience in objective setting and managing others through a performance management framework.


Quality assurance forms a large part of this role and the candidate should also be able to demonstrate an understanding of QA processes, ideally having worked in an environment that applies these rigorously.


Main duties include:

* Managing the packaging team to ensure production meets business demand. This includes planning shifts, managing the transfer of beer from the brewery and balancing the priorities of packaging own brand products vs contract third party  

* Maintaining packaging equipment and resolving issues when they arise

* Managing stock volumes and working with suppliers to meet production cycles

* Performing lab analysis and other QA processes to ensure packaged products are fit for purpose

* Maintaining packaging team records and training logs

* Influencing strategic direction, working closely with other teams to grow this part of the business


Minimum Requirements:

* Legal right to work in U.K

* At least C grade GCSEs (or equivalent) in maths and English

* 2 – 5 years’ experience on a beverage packaging line


Desirable skills & experience:

* Experience running bottling lines and maintaining packaging equipment

* Understanding capacity planning, budget setting and KPI production

* Managing people

* Understanding beer production processes

* Understanding CIP systems and chemical usage/interaction

* Food hygiene or brewing qualification (HACCP, IBD etc)

* Plant maintenance engineering

* Working with Moravek equipment
